All around the world empty houses, dilapidated castles and evacuated towns are invaded by wild animals and nature. These buildings seem to exist in a purgatory stage before slowly merging into the natural environment.

Ships, trains, and airplanes incarnate the power of the industrial era. No longer of use they are discarded to rust and rot. This episode looks at what becomes of these old ships and trains that become wildlife refuges, historical relics or works of art.

Old army vehicles the world over are left discarded in overgrown fields or vast junkyards. They become refuges for wildlife, attractions for history enthusiasts, or a paradise for urban explorers.

Abandoned to gather moss and rust, cars from the early twentieth century hold a special fascination; Laid to rest in car cemeteries in France, the USA, and elsewhere, these ‘sleeping beauties’ attract collectors and vintage car enthusiasts.
